you have probably lost the transponder out of the key
it is a small black rectangular plastic piece that sits in a slot inside of the key

Yes, I've seen this many times. Take time to have a look on the floor near where you changed the battery. The transponder chip looks like nothing more than a small broken chip of black plastic. They can easily fall out when you slide the remote section out of the key head.

The remote bit only operates the central locking. The car can be started & driven with the key blade alone, as long as the little transponder chip is attached.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

If I have lost this transponder, is there a way I can get another one from somewhere?
Thanks for the replies
