Looking to convert my EH Panelvan to a V8 ( 253 or 308 ). Car currently has a 202 & trimatic gearbox in it. Tunnel has been modified already to suit trimatic for a 6. wanting to put a V8 trimatic with new V8 engine. Looking for any advice on how to do this. Is it an easy conversion or should i just stick with th 202

You could go 253 308 Chev or Holden V6 or Holden/Nissan turbo 6.

It is easy, just like any conversion that you can buy kits for. If you do it all yourself along the guidlines provided by an engineer, you could do it for $20,000. The biggest question is. What do you want? If you cant answer this yet, then you are better off sticking with the 202 for a while. Look at some other converted EH's at shows, or join an EJ-EH club and talk to some of the revheads there, and look at their cars.
Look at Castlemaine Rod Shop, Rods Racks, V6 Conversions. These websites have a few kits listed, and it will give you an idea of what else you will need to add along with the actual V8. Carbies, sump, heads, ignition, wiring, trans, tailshaft, diff, brakes, wheels, radiator, extractors, exhaust, steering rack, steering column, chassis kit.
Umm maybe look at $30K, $40K, more. It is easy though. |

stiltsy,
I have done the same combination to my van. Let me just say that it ain't a 5min job and I agree with Peter's 20K estimate.
Fire wall mods, tunnel mods, front end mods, brake mods, diff mods, rack and pinion, big radiator etc
I would stroke the 202 and keep it looking original as it's a cheaper and easier option!

Thanks for the advice guys. I think i will keep the 202 as i dont realy have the budget to convert it. Mght just hot up the 202 and run some triples on it. John ( 65ehpv ) i have seen your PV in the Just Holdens magazine , very nice , its what got me thinking about the conversion. Peter Flan i am a member of the Vic EH Holden club but i live in cobram so i do not get to go to many events to check out the other cars.

V6 conversion is easier and cheaper, we used to have a FJ ute in our club that had a buick V6 with carby set up, 9inch diff, cant remember what box and it ran a torana disc front end .

A V6 conversion is not really cheaper. You have to replace all the same items you would with a V8 conversion, and get the same engineers reports. The actual items are different, but they all have to be custom made.
The main difference is V6 or V8. That is your decision on what you want. |
