BAD noise from the front of the auto

Hi again,
The tonner started getting a noise the other day that started as just a little sort of ticking noise and ended up sounding like someone was bashing on an empty biscuit tin with a hammer!
I ran the engine tonight with it on a jack and when I put my hand on the inspection cover thingo for the T400 auto I can "feel" the noise is coming from that area, put my hand on the sump and can't feel anything coming from there. A friend of mine thinks it may be that the flex plate has a crack and is now "working" the crack larger and larger, as there was a point where you could back off whilst driving and the noise would stop during the transition from power on to power off. The engine is fine, doesn't have a miss and still has plenty of mumbo... All help is appreciated!!

try pulling the inspection plate off, it may have had a slight tap and moved and is just rubbing on the plate?
there's F all room between the plate and the flex plate so it doesn't need to move much to rub
it also could be a nut come loose and fallen in and is now bouncing around

one of the bolts on the flex plate working free gave me the exact same noise |

Adjust the cover first, and if there are any dents take it off and knock them out and replace.

FIXED!!!! It was indeed a torque converter bolt that goes through the flex plate had come loose and was starting to grind a groove into the cover plate. When I tightened that one I checked the next one and it was starting to come loose as well, most likely from the vibration of the other bolt going against the cover. Thanks to all who posted replies, yet again Fastlane members have got me out of the poo! If it was the engine I would have had to take the 307 out of the HK and I didn't want to do that as it is a fresh rebuild and hasn't been run in yet.[img]  [/img]

i would keep an eye on them. that doesn't look like a traditional flex plate bolt. most of the ones that i have seen are fine thread with a flatter head. |

Also I'd be putting a bit of Loctite on em too, they're one bolt that seems to come loose regularly!

Thanks, I'll be doing Loctite for sure. Which one, 222 or 242 or is there a standard one for vibration prone areas like the flexplate?...
