Would like to know if there were two types of woodgrain patterns with the series one Caprice? The reason I ask is I bought a nos dash facia off ebay years ago (P/N is the same on the box as what is in the parts book) and I never really paid much attention to it until recently when I was sorting all my parts out that I was going to use and I got the new dash facia out of the box and noticed that it is an entirely different woodgrain pattern to the original one in the car and the other five used ones I have in the shed. The nos one is more of a brushed pattern and lighter in colour where the others are a darker swirl type of a pattern (I think it is referred to as burlwood). These are all definitely series one dash facias as they have the place for the remote mirror control mount (series two had electric mirror control switch on the console and a trip meter in the position where the remote mirror control would be and I think the radio holes are different) and there is the same number on all the backs (GM-1). I do know that the series 2 had a different woodgrain but I was just wondering how there can be two different patterns in a series 1 but just one part number listed in the parts book. This is annoying because it does not suit the pattern in my console and I really wanted to use the NOS facia. Cheers MS

I've only ever seen the glossy walnut/burl looking fascia in early Caprice. Maybe some pictures might hekp?

Hi MS,
Looking at my Oct '83 and '84 parts books, the series I Caprice fascia has part # 92002209. Series II is 92021542. If your book is the 1980 version then it won't have the series II parts listed.

Does there happen to be a date on the box? Perhaps Holden standardised the pattern of the two fascias when the series II was released? Though that doesn't explain why it is lighter. The series I fascia has a lot of small blotches, and the series II has more continous swirls and is slightly darker in colour.

There are a few Caprices on the Aussie muscle car sales site if you want to have a look and compare to what you have.

Other alternative is to look out for a NOS console fascia that matches what you have!

I know what you mean about the trip computer holes - they take the place of the LH mirror remote, and the hole above it.

So knowing at least some (if not all) basic series 2 DeVilles stuck with the manual mirrors - then some series 2 cars would have kept the mechanical remote. DeVille series 2 had like a silvery gold finish on them, but maybe there was some form of optional woodgrain with a different finish? Just a thought?

It does remind me of the 2 different false woodgrain finishes in VB Commodores - SL had the "rosewood" finish while the SL/E got "burl walnut"

MS, did you happen to find a date on the box? If it is mid 80s onwards then it confirms what I said about Holden standardising the texture/pattern. It would be perfect for someone needing one for a series II Caprice as that LH mirror control panel could easily be cut out for the trip computer.

The bottom photo is the correct colour brown for the series II (more orangey than the series I) but appears to have less "burls" than the ones I've seen, especially the lower half.

There were NOS series I Caprice fascias on ebay for several years, is this one of them?

Hey thanks 80569k and commodorenut, I was getting there..... eventually......one day....soon, I am in the middle of a big shed clean out, that is what made me look at the facia, soooooo much stuff that I forgot that I had, found a complete set of NOS white WB Statesman body moulds. I now remember getting these and was going to paint them to match my blue WB but they were to good and the white is sooooo WHITE, I even seriously thought of painting the Stato white just to match the moulds. Rhys as mentioned the only part number listed on the box is the series 1 part number 92002209 and yes I bought this off of ebay about 6 - 7 years ago. I would like to actually compare it against a series 11 Caprice dash just to see if the woodgrain is the same or if there is a difference even though the structual design of the facia's are definitely different between the two models (I have a series 11 DeVille with trip meter fitted which is the same as the Caprice but it is gold instead of woodgrain), it is almost like later series 1 parts received the wrong woodgrain when the series 11 was released. I saw about 7 - 10 off them get sold on ebay by the same seller for around 100 - 200 and then a few buyers started off loading them a couple of months after they had stopped selling for 300 plus, unsure if they were all the same wood grain pattern or if mine was different. Nice looking facia but it does not suit any of the console woodgrains I have. My only option would be is to get series two console wood grain if it actually does match the dash and run the electric mirrors (Found some of them as well with a NOS switch) and maybe just blank the mirror hole off on the dash like the DeVille did with the digital clock hole but I really wanted to leave it all original

Rhys forgot to mention there are no actual dates on the box just a sticker with all the location number and any other dealer parts reference detail but no date.
