I need to replace the speedo cable on my Ht prem in the next few weeks and was thinking about giving it a go myself and as far as i can see I may have to drop the steering column to get to the speddo head . Or do i take the intstrument cluster out ? Which way is best ? Thanks in advance .

I have always reached up under the dash and used my fingers to loosen the nut. If someone has used a spanner to tighten it up in the first place, then taking the dash out might be your only option.
How chunky are your hands?? its a tight fit, and i spray some insect killer in there too. :-) |

might be ok getting my hand up there . just worried about taking the dash out as it would be more difficult in regard to taking the headlight switch etc out first .

I just took it out to replace a bulb, and when I put everything back, the car woulldnt start.. something has been stretched and come loose i'm guessing, any way, I have just replaced the entire loom to fix the problem.
So if I can leave the dash in I will do it!! |

Headlight switch is a piece of cake... once you've had a few goes at the mongrel.
Kneel outside the car, stick your left hand up under the dash and find the little round button on the top of the switch, pull the lights full on, press the button in and pull the knob right out.
Then undo the nut and let the switch stay where it is, no need to unplug it.
Ignition switch, turn it to ACC and stick a bit of wire in the hole next to the key slot to depress the lock button keep turning it left and the lock will pop out, undo the bezel and leave the switch sitting there as well.
Wiper switch has a little spring clip with a little right angled tooth holding the knob onto it's shaft, get a jewellers flat screwdriver to lift the tooth up and remove the knob, undo the nut and leave that switch hanging in there as well.
If you have a choke, undo the it from the carby, pull the cable out, undo the nut and leave the outer hanging in there.
Hope that helps.
