whats involved in putting a T700 in a WB van , it would be going on a 5.0 Turbo pattern block from a HZ.

I don't believe it's real hard. Just make sure you don't get a computer controlled box. You need to fabricate a rear mount, which is only a slightly modified trimatic/4/3speed one and shorten a trimatic tailshaft to suit. The box should use a TH400/TH350

Hi Guys.

Yes, Byron is correct al VN/VP V8 autos were TH700.

They had a cable TV control similar to a TH350.

I've fitted one to an HZ 308 in place of a TH 400.

I used a TH350 crossmember & tailshaft. Because the box is slightly longer, I mount
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

They are nowhere near as tough as a TH400, and heaps dearer to rebuild. If you tow a lot I'd stick with the 400. If you want overdrive stick a 2.78 or 2.6 diff in it. The 308 should have sufficient grunt to push it. a 3.08 diff with a 0.85:1 overdrive is

Whats the most common way of getting the convertor to lockup when you are running these boxes behind the older motors? and is there any easy way to tell if a T700 is computer controlled or not?

Thanks

You can fit a switch, but if you forget to flick it off you'll burn the TCC.
If you know someone who is an electronics nut, you can probably get them to build you a little frequency detecting circuit, that will flick an output high or low above & below c
