I just wanted to get a roadworthy - but failed because apparently my "front park lights" don't work. It's a 1972 HQ. Where would those park lights be? I can't find them. Are they the same as the indicators?

Thank you for your help!

inside your headlight there is a little globe...failing that you may have a twin
filament globe in your indicators, but I'm betting the first option...it has a "flowery" connection.

I'm betting on the 2nd option. If the HQ is a 1972 version, then it will have white front indicators which are also the front parking lights (double filament). If it's a 73/74 then the front indicators will be amber & as jim has said, the parkers will be small globes incorporated in the headlights (mounted on the headlight globe sockets).

It's probably just 2 blown globes, because if the tail-lights are working, then the fuse & switch are OK.

Not so.

Early HQ One-Tonners have white front blinkers, even though they are mounted on the nose panel. They were only built for around 14 months before the amber front lenses were introduced, so you don't see many around nowadays.

It's a 1 Tonner, 1972 - so indicators are in the bumper - so they should be in there right? Inside the indicators.

Let's clear a couple of things up here.

Firstly ALL HQ One-Tonners had a Bedford truck style front bar & the indicators were mounted on the nose panel between the headlights & the grille. The grille itself was also unique to the One-Tonner & was a rather plain pressed-metal item. HJ/X/Z One-Tonners had the same front fitted, but a Premier nose & bar could be optioned as part of the 'Ambulance Pack'. This was not available from the factory on HQs.

Many HQ One-Tonners over the years have been modified & have had the Kingswood type bar & grille retro-fitted. These have the front blinkers in the bar.

For ADR compliance in early 1973 front blinkers had to be amber coloured. So where all Holden front blinkers & parkers used to be white, for 1973 the parkers were moved to the headlights & the blinker lens changed to amber (LJ Toranas changed at the same time). By law parkers are always white. The amber front blinkers were first seen in production in Dec 1972, so if you have a 1972 Holden with amber front blinkers it's a very rare early item.

One-Tonners were first produced in Nov 1971, so One-Tonners with white front blinkers were only seen for the 14 months from Nov 71 to Dec 72, inclusive.

My bet is that this particular One-Tonner came from the factory with white front blinkers, because it's a 1972 build. Somebody in the past has fitted a Kingswood style front bar (73/74 with amber blinkers) & has not bothered to wire up the parkers because he couldn't work out where to put them. He wasn't allowed to have amber front parkers & didn't go the trouble of obtaining all the correct bits & pieces to fit the parkers behind the headlights which would've been the correct (legal) way to go.

So would they give me a roadworthy if I exchanged the amber glass with a white indicator lens and put the parkers in there as well?
Does anyone know where to get white indicator lenses from?
Damn RTA inspection is on Wednesday - so not much time left.

Thank you so much,
stefan

If the car is a 1972 build & has a chassis number beginning with a B, then yes, white front blinkers & parkers is what they had when they left the factory.

I think Rare Spares should have the white front lenses in stock.

I just realized that when I put in the reverse - both rear indicators would come on instead of the reverse lights. The reverse lights aren't even hooked up and there is no cable for them.
What is this?

All Holdens up to HZ used the amber rear blinkers as reversing lights, that's how they were. If you have white reversing lights, they're not factory either.

How do these rear lights look like? The original ones I mean - do they have the reverse lights and blinkers combined?
Please let me know, can't find a picture anywhere.

I don't have a picture handy, but these ones on ebay are similar in style:

http://www.ebay.com.au/i...aa9b169a4#ht_1555wt_873

I believe that the original HQ-HZ One-Tonner items were a generic truck/trailer design made by Hella.

As I mentioned earlier, all Holdens up to HZ & all Toranas do not have separate clear/white reversing lights. As with most other cars of the era, the two rear amber blinkers are wired at the blinker switch so they light up when reverse is selected, as well as acting as blinkers.

Thank you gents!
Ok found the spare part number for the lens, Hella No. 2.9805.03

I think I'm going to put the blinker/rearlight combination of the HQ Sedan. They've got nice metal housings as I've seen. Any comments on fitting these to a 1 Tonner? Are these full units/housings? It says they are just lenses and gaskets - but the metal frame in the image must be comming with it or what do you guys think?
