I am looking to convert my HG 186, 3 speed column manual to either a powerglide or trimatic with column shift. I am looking for advice on which box to go for. The ute is only a weekender and does not see alot of kms. I will also need a column, linkages, pedal assy. Cheers

I'd go for the trimatic, you cant have too many gears I reckon. Easier to obtain too. Ive got a 6 cyl tri avail, near ipswich QLD. Shouldnt have too much trouble getting the rest

Yep, go Trimatic, particularly as you have a six cyl. Column setup, with a RH side selector shaft box, should be a reasonably simple conversion from manual to auto. Trimatic to suit a six can have some upgrades done to make them stronger & change well. I see you're in Vic, I can recommend a guy in the Northern suburbs that I have had build a number of boxes including a Trimatic for a VK inj 6 cyl. Edited by user Monday, 11 July 2011 9:33:58 PM(UTC)

My 186 ht prem has a powerglide and is the most reliable and toughest gearbox evermade . They have a preety good torque convertor that acts like a third gear anyway , just my 2 cents worth lol .
