I have a rattle noise which seems to be coming from the front of the crank, It sounds more like something rattling on a panel, I have checked out the harmonic balancer and that looks fine and replaced the timing chain. It mainly does it when it is cold and under load, if you take off easily it isn't as bad. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks qld I've checked all that out and can't find anything, it makes the noise when you are stoped with your foot on the brake and accelerate at the same time without moving.

Hi Glen, This is a dumb question but I'll ask it anyway. Have you checked that the engine isn't pinging? You're comment about the noise only occuring under load and being less apparent if you take it easy sort of points to this problem.

Here's another stupid question. Is it more a scraping noise than a banging? If so it could be something as simple as a worn fan belt. Run some dry soap along the sides of the belt and check the tension. Might save you having to pull the sump off and n

I dont think its a knocking noise its more of a tiny noise as if you had a pice of tin spining around and hitting something
