Hopefully this weekend. Brakes to bleed, radiator to refit, bottom hose to make and that's enough to get it moving and stopping.

Steering shaft removed and machined down to suit the Torana uni joint. what was I thinking using American rubbish when a good old Aussie Holden part is better. Lesson learnt. All done, trial fitted and painted. Reassembly after lunch and hopefully job done.

Finally got a start on the dash fascia. It took longer to set this up in the mill than cut the 6 rough holes. Now the hours of machining begin. This may take a while...




Basic Gauge holes done. Not bad considering I can only take 0.25mm of material off each time. There's about 4 hours there just taking these from the holesaw cut size to finished size. Still need to machine the slot for the LED light panel.. Then I'll take it out and set it up again for final machining..

What a dashing day I had!!











Machined up a collar to help blend the steering wheel boss into the column. Looks simple but took hours and hours..

Made up some subframe bolt covers which will be painted black. I also cut out a notch in the dash frame to let the speedo cable make it's way into the speedo. Finally I got the A/C unit fitted up under the dash and the ducting in place.

Do you have a roll of that felt tape for wrapping wiring looms up? Stops them squeaking against painted areas (like they do when wrapped in nitto tape).
Reason I ask, is it may be wise to wrap a few layers around the speedo cable, to prevent a potential annoying rattle later on.

A/c unit came out and went back in 3 or 4 times today until I got everything sorted. I needed to tweak the heater hose connectors and one of the A/C hose fittings. I also needed to fit the vacuum line to the heater tap as I forgot to do this. Getting the rubber heater hoses from the engine was a nightmare. Heaps of white grease, heaps of swearing and then with some help from the lovely wife we got the hoses fitted and the firewall grommet in place. I needed to relocate the ignition coil also as it was in the road.

I will do this as I have heaps of the cloth tape available. Anything to keep things quiet and cosy..

Tailgate straps sorted for now. Still need to make some retaining bolts for the body end of the straps.

What a surprise. A bloody water leak. I refilled the radiator, found my bitumen tape and was laying on my back in the ute ready to start wrapping the heater and A/C pipe fittings when I see a drip. Followed by another drip. Firstly I thought it was just a loose hose clamp. No. One of the many solder joints on my dodgy home made pipes was leaking. I pulled it out resoldered it and put it back in. Still leaked. REPEAT. Hopefully no leak now. I also painted the subframe bolt covers. I managed to find some large diameter flat washers to use on the subframe bolts. These are the same diameter as the top bush so are perfect. They were originally only 3/8" id so I put them in the lathe and ran them out to 1/2" id. A bit of black paint to stop them rusting and they're done. I also played around with an old steering wheel button. Colour matched it to the interior colours. Looks good. I need to find a good one now to do the same and fit it to the SAAS wheel.

Dash fascia is going to take too much time for me to machine to what I want so it's getting a polish and then brushed finish. I also checked the speedo cable fitment. Looks like I got that right. Also fitted a USB power socket so she can keep her phone charged. The headunit we have has bluetooth handsfree phone capability so this completes the package. Batteries also sorted. One can be isolated to ensure we don't get caught somewhere with a flat battery.

Front sheetmetal back on after some stone chip protector was added to the back. Too many little bolts and nuts for me so I called for reinforcements.

Drivers side lighting all buttoned up. Passenger side harness run across the car and terminated ready to go. I need to find one lousy grommet to get it finalised. Another box ticked

Todays effort, Dynamat in the doors, find all the door hardware and get the best ones cleaned up and ready to fit. Longer subframe bolts fitted and blanking covers siliconed in place. All my helpers were on board today..

Drivers door hardware fitted and aligned. Opens and closes perfectly. Inner door belt weatherstrip fitted. HOWEVER the outer didn't make it through the process. It's now in the bin. Not even close to matching the shape of the door and about 10mm too short. Surely someone can make them to fit correctly.

Great progress today, Glovebox and main wiring housing refitted and the wiring nicely tucked up behind the glovebox. Glovebox lid refitted and aligned. Grille bar supports masked and painted. Door cards made from ply. Rear tray area started and some cleaning up under way..
