G'day all. This has no doubt been brought up before, but. How many colours were the HK TYPE 1 327 released in or available in discounting special orders etc. Was it the basic 4 and the addition colours came later with the Type 2. or varied all depend on the assembly plant....Jack

According to the 'bible', "1968 GTS/GTS 327 models available in Bright Blue Met., Picardy Red, Silver Mink Met. and Warwick Yellow only. Ermine White and Inca Gold Met. were added in 1969."
Wonder if there are any special orders known of? |

I think you have to look at the question, "discounting special orders etc"
The first type came in 4 colours and second type engine came in all 6.
Yes some early GTS vehicles were painted in the two extra 69 colours of Ermine white and Inca Gold, however they would fall into the special order etc class. As they were not officially available.
If we start to look at all the known unofficial Monaro colours, not only is there Woodsmans Green (also an HK colour) but also Hacienda Blue, Brambles red and Warrigal Black.

What colour were the stripes on the Warrigal black one? Hertz Mustang combo of gold and black might have looked good.

Warren, taken what you have just said could I deduce that "All 1968 GTS 327 Monaros were originally painted in 1 of the 4 basic colours" again discounting any special orders etc. OR that any HK GTS Monaro in a colour other than 1 of the 4 basic colours could not be a 1968, or a 327 or a Type 1 Monaro otherwise it is a special order,is a Type 2 or has been repainted. Oh and by the way when was Type 2 released 1968 or 1969? if it was 1968 you could simply say excepting any special orders, reducing all the above to All "Type 1" monaros were in 1 of the 4 basic colours" and that was what I was getting at yesterday in the original question, above....Jack

I think we're getting a bit carried away calling these cars Type 1 & Type 2 Monaros.
I was of the belief that the later (Type 2) 327 engine was simply introduced at each plant when stockpiles of the Type 1 engine ran out. This would have been a different time for each plant. I think the chassis number break points for this change is listed in the Monaro bible. Wasn't it around Oct 68 ??
The introduction of new colours to the range usually happened at the resumption of production, after the Christmas shutdown. So I don't see a connection between the change to paint colour availability & the intro of the Type 2 327.
My point is basically that there is no such thing as Type 2 (or series 2) HK Monaro, it was just a running change of engine for the GTS 327 only. Whether the car was built in 1968 or 1969 is altogether different.

Hi Dr terry, I accept your point that Type 1&2 was more a reference to the engine, nevertheless I don't think you quite catch my point or question. ie. Discounting special orders etc. "Were all 81837 Monaros, with the Type 1 engine, painted in only 1 of those original 4 basic colours ?" or if you wish to use the date you mention ie around Oct 1968 for that running change, given also that as you suggest the colour change was later, after Oct "Were all 81837 Monaros built before that running change painted in only 1 of those basic 4 colours".otherwise it was a special order or has been repainted since. The reference to Type 1&2 is of course used in the GMH parts catalogue to differentiate between those vehicles fitted with the early engine or later type, but as you say they were not designated or released as a Type 1 or type 2 GTS 327....Jack Edited by user Saturday, 24 September 2011 11:45:59 AM(UTC)

I wonder if they would do special orders today like a WM caprice in Crunch, imagine that coming down the line!
