Hi all,

I'm new to forums, so be gentle......

I have the opportunity to purchase a HR X2 Ute. The current owner calims it is the real deal and that his grandfather purchased the vehicle new. While I cant dispute the family connection I need some info on what makes it real....

So I am interested to find out what (besides the obvious badges, gauges and twin carby set) other items would indicate its history. Of interest is body numbers or codes (if any), particular stampings or panel identifiers, colour codes etc.

Also, would anyone know how many were made/sold and what value the vehicle would expect to fetch on the market today?

Any info would be appricated.

Thanks and regards,

Michael.

The X2 was just an enigne option, that also came with a revised instrument set, ie guages for oil, temp and an ammeter.

They were not given a seperate model number and was available on all cars in all colours.

As an engine option it would be almost impossible to find how many were ordered new, but I would suggest that a ute with the top engine would be quite rare in comparison to others.

To confirm it being an X2, it would have a different accellerator, firewall to carby shaft and the carbies are different to normal. However these are easily fitted and were quite available.

The best way to identify to 99% is to check the ammeter wiring, as this is unique to the X2 and probably the least worried about for original look when making a conversion back in the 60s and 70s.

1) There should not be a wire from the alternator to the battery.

2) Start the car and watch the ammeter. When the car starts the needle should move to + or charge, then move back to the middle.

3) If all of the above are ok then you will need to take the instruments out and check that the wires all have the right connectors on them.

I don't think it would be worth much at all.
Has it got the original engine and not a recon.
Has he got old rego papers and is the engine number 186K up to 162700

Would of been a fast ute in it's day ford only had the 200ci in the ute and the VC valiant had the big 225ci and 273 V8 auto.

The HR X2 manual ute could maybe hose off a VC 225ci but the VE with the 2 BBL 225 would hose off a X2.

Thanks guys, all good info. I'm still undecided and I suppose for $3k it's not a major outlay.

I'll keep pondering....

Regards,

Michael.
