It was not officially available (I'm not sure if any were ever built or sold), but the 307 Chev & the 308 Holden was available.
Given the fact that the chassis, brakes & steering are virtually identical to the Monaro GTS 350, why is it such a drama ?

It doesn't really matter whether it was available or not for rego purposes, the max engine size is governed by the weight of the heaviest sedan equivalent for the series which for HG would be the HG GTS350A or the Brougham. I'm pretty sure this also implies that whatever the biggest engine available in a series you can put that in the other models of that series as long as you fit the other stuff that goes with it like brakes, suspension, diff and large unis. As Dr Terry says if the ute has discs it will already have the same brakes, just needs the front springs and heavier duty diff and unis. |

would of saved himself a lot of trouble if he told them it was a 307 or 302 even, save so much trouble.

It may be a GTS350 engine with 350 on the front of the engine number for all to see! |

All well & good until you hit & hurt, (or possibly kill someone). Then, the question will be asked: Why do you have a 350 ci motor in the car when it is registered with a 307 ci? If you're gunna do it, do it right. |

up here in qld were a bit behind you guys with that B/S a car is only rego i.e 4,6,8 not engine size, when i was an apprentice i had a brown hx kingswood delux 253 tri when the auto died in went a 350 and turbo 350 one day i flew past a cop in a side street when he finally caught me he said tha ant no 253 open the bonnet he knew it was a chev i told him it was a 283, well since these have 308,s i,ll leave it at that, for all the other stuff he left his ticket book at the shop so i was off. if a bigger engine was avaible in a series i.e ht 350 monaro all these others in the same series can run long as everything else matches i.e suspension and brakes

I suppose my point was lost. It is when The Coroner, not a Cop, asks the question. |

The usual problem is when your Insurance Company realises that you haven't told them something you know (disclosure). |

Mate your screwed if your car is modified and you havnt disclosed it. Insurance gone, and who knows where you are in the legal world. Not worth it when you could easily get a 350 in legally anyway. Maybe 25 years ago you could pull a swifty, not in 2012.

In queensland they do on enigne size, the largest engine you can fit to an FE/C is 317 cubic inch.
It goes on what the car came with plus.
A 350 in an HT would not be a problem, but an adr27a with 350 is as it must run gas to comply.

That is about how it is in NSW, except you can get away with a 350 in a ADR27A car by using or copying from an engine that complies eg 1979-80 GMH assembled C20 (plus Engineering). You can also get away with a 307 if you run the pollution equipment off an ADR27A 308 on it, but it'll need Engineering. |

insurance companies are always looking for ways to get out of paying up, a little white lie with engine size could be enough if you get caught, best do things properly, nothing to worry about then sometimes it depends on who you get when it comes to rego sometimes!! some have no idea, some just have a bad day
