If it only runs when you hold the primer down, then I'd say you've got a split/torn/holed diaphragm in the mixer. Have you had a backfire lately?
You can buy replacement diaphragms & rebuild it yourself with basic hand tools - even on the side of the road. |

Is it an Impco mixer? Generation I or New Generation? Pop into a gas place, and you may find one that is helpful, and sell you a new mixer at a good price. I have been lucky with the last two I have dealt with, and they have both been very helpful. |

Off a commodore, it's likely to be an Impco 300A like 99% of commodore V8 conversions are. Here's a couple of ebay listings to help with ID: The usual snorkel arrangement: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/150749308441
And a clean new one: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/170614864647
If it is a 300A, then you can buy a rebuild kit with a new diaphragm from this mob in Victoria: http://www.bluelpg.com.au/tmcart/products.php?195
Ot to get you out of trouble, you can buy a 2nd hand one, and simply copy the "tuning" settings off your one, and that will get you going at least. |

try to avoid using second hand converters, unless they have been removed form a running car, converters only last about 6 months off a car before the diaphragm dries out, also people usually only take them off if there stuffed!!
re-build kits are ok there easy things to fix, personally i think a new converter is the best way to go

G'day all this might be an expensive way to go but if you have a dollar or two there is gas injection which can give you more power and run cheaper than the traditional way gas is runs, one of the guys at work has fitted it to his hg and is running around 8-9 litres per 100 on a 327, but if yur budget is tight i would recomend that you go new i think that the converters are relitivly cheap and you don't have to worrie about is it going to play up in the future, just an idea to throw into the mix. cheers jonesy |

thanks everyone, i got the part wrong, it is the converter that appears to be cactus, but she runs when the button is pushed on converter, not mixer, me thinks a new converter is the best way to go. cheers bcb |

If the gas guy does't have an impco handy, the "Aussie B2" copy of the popular impco is a cheaper option that's just as good for a daily. |
