No. An LX would only legally be able to tow about 1200kg max, which is a trailer with maybe an engine and box on it! |

Only if the VT has a 2100kg towing setup, and only if the VN & trailer combined weighs less than 2100kg.

I don't think a manual VT can tow more than 1200kg. |

commodores don't tow loaded car trailers very well.
the hitch point is generally too low, and you have greater than 10% of the trailer weight on the ball... mudflaps drag on the ground.. coil spring rear not good for towing... |
Old holdens brought on the spot, quick decision, cash paid. |

No. Incorrect. Posted speed limit, that is, up to 110km/h. There has not been a 80km/h statutory towing limit in NSW for at least 7 years. Anyone wanting to do the research can be more specific. The 80km/h limit is not statutory but recommended by some manufacturers such as Holden, on Holden's case, up to VZ. So is it 'legal' to tow at 110km/h in a Holden up to VZ? Crash and tell us... (Note: there are many provisos, such as current VE Commodore manual, maximum recommended manufacturer's speed is 100km/h.)

Toughen up Australia! I towed a car trailer from Adelaide to Melbourne, picked up a HG Premier, turned around and drove straight back to Adelaide with my standard 186 manual HT panel van with drums all round. No sweat. Standard towbar too. |

That may well be the case Phil, but somebody should inform the NSW Police. I was booked for towing an empty car trailer at 98 km/h on the F3 in a 110 km/h zone, last year (2011). Great timing too, double demerits long weekend, 6 points GRR !! Dr Terry |

Not for us to toughen up, it's the Police and insurance companies who have toughened up.

I attempted that about 4 years ago when I was wrongly defected for supposed oversized wheels. I won, but It took over 6 months of stuffing around with SDRO & the court system & in the end cost me more than the original fine. I'm not going thru that again. Have you ever dealt with these a@seholes, they don't seem to realise that they are actually public servants. My motto is stay away from solicitors & judges, if you lay down with dogs you end up with fleas. Dr Terry |

Bugger the courts, I'd go straight to my local State member and tell them what happened. I bet it could easily be fixed that way, possibly at keast worth a phone call. |

Sorry Byron, I think I've been on the planet too long. I'm far too cynical to think that talking to an elected official or a public servant can be of any benefit to my daily life. Dr Terry |
