Hi all, I've had to modify the trans tunnel in my HR ute, and now the bench seat wont fit. Just wondering if some bucket seats (either old original HR ones or newer commo ones) will fit in relatively easy.?
Cheers!

Do you have your heart set on buckets? I wonder if it's possible to modify the bench- like a larger 'cutout' for the tunnel. I'm assuming you've enlarged the tunnel but the floor is relativly untouched. |

hmm, I have considered modding the bench to fit, and I probably will if buckets are too much hassle. Yes - the tunnel is bigger now and the floor is untouch. I thought maybe buckets would make the cabin "feel" a bit bigger(as the new tunnel cramps it a bit), as well as the bench takes up most of the space when its in there. Would be noce to have the shifter a bit closer too. Any thoughts?

Auto or manual shifter? Autos are easy to more the shifter. Manuals- depend on what gearbox it is- does it have an external shifter? Or internal?
Cheers,

Its an auto (TH400). Ive got a B&M shifter to go in and that hinges on where the seats end up - Handbrake postion as well. It is just a case of drilling holes and bolting buckets in? Or are there some stricter guidelines to follow?

How much higher did you make the tunnel below the middle of the bench seat area? If the flat area, where the inner rails of HR buckets will sit on, is untouched, you 'should' be able to get buckets in. If I had the choice, I'd travel the path of buckets personally. Sounds like you've got enough romm for a transfer case under there. Edited by user Saturday, 11 February 2012 8:50:56 PM(UTC)

That was my one of my criteria when cutting the old tunnel- not to touch the floor. So does that mean original buckets will go in? Do I just drill holes and bolt them in? My other question is, what about newer ones like commo or similar? Anyone done it? Yeah I probly went overboard with the new tunnel but I only wnated to make one!

Original HR Buckets will just bolt in. The outside holes are the same as the bench. Easy.
Commodore buckets need custom fitment. New adapter plates that you can make, and new holes.
Personally the look of headrest buckets is not my favourite.
Do you want old school look buckets? Or race look? |

I agree, I prefer old school buckets - they look so much neater. what about the inside holes? Just make some? Do original HR buckets come on rails? Sorry for all the Q's!

The flat areas each side of the tunnel, behind where your tunnel is modified is where the inner rails of HR buckets sit. Yes, you do make some holes to suit, ensuring the runners are set up parallel. Good practice to fit a strengthening plate below the floor in that area. You mention a TH400 going in? I assume behind a V8? Have you got an engineer on side to ensure any mods you undertake are suitable for rego?

Yes behind a 350 chev.....modified front end( front mount rack),disc brakes all round (VL turbo back end went in as is....new mounts of course). I had an engineer that was happy with everything in QLD but I have now moved to Adelaide, so I'm still fishing for one! I hope I don't have any major problems. But from what I hear, SA is far more lax than QLD.
