The oil seems to take about 15-20 seconds for the lifter clacking noise to stop and oil to get up pressure especially if the motor has been off for a week.

The oil light flickers at idle (700-800 rpm) and goes off at 900'ish rpm

A few times at continuous high rpm high speed (120+kph) for 30 minutes or so (3500rpm). The motor has lost oil pressure to lifters, and stopping on the side of the road at idle for about a minute with the lifters clacking and it is fine again. It is like the sump went dry and was waiting for oil to drain back down????

It is a 202 that never gets revved over 5000rpm
It has standard lifters, standard oil pump (not HV), roller rockers, mild cam. Using Penrite HPR30 oil

This oil problem has only started since I pulled off the oil pump to change the cam. The oil pump gears fell out, and I may have put one or both in backwards.

My main questions would be.
Could this be an oil starvation problem, or a poor flow, worn oil pump?
Should I first of all start with a new oil pump? Standard or HV and why?
Should I change the oil to a different kind?

Sounds oil volume related, like worn main bearings.
Why was the cam out? if it was to replace a stripped fibre gear the oil pickup screen could be full of fibre rubbish.
Hopefully it is just the pump. Maybe the gasket is blown between the suction an pressure passages. or the relief valve stuck open.
I remember back in the 70's a run of Toranas had loose pickup pipe nuts and they were sucking air. good luck
