The old 149 3sp manual box in the EH is this the same as the EJ and also back to the FX ?
Now with the EH 179 they got a totally new box from then on ? not just shot penned gears or was it the early 149 EH box that got the shot penned gears and the old gray motor gears were weaker.
Are the ratios the same in both boxes ?
And is it this 179 on type box that is in the 6 cyl HK non synchro 3sp ?

Also did the diff in the EH go to a nodular banjo housing with the start of the 179 manual.

So many questions, where do you start.

I believe that all FX-HK crash boxes had the same ratios. FX-EK had a combined main-case & bell housing, while the later boxes had a separate alloy bell housing.

EJ & early EH (149) boxes were basically the same except the EJ had no rear mount provision. The first 179 manuals (S4) had shot peined gears plus they had a slightly different bell housing with one extra mount bolt & an altered slaved cylinder to suit.

When the 179 manual was made commonly available (Feb 64) the newer box with the 5-bolt bell housing was made standard acros the board. AFIAK it remained basically unchanged from then to the end of HK, apart fom linkages.

I'm not sure about the nodular iron diff carrier but I would guess that they were all built they way from 1964 onwards.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0
