Saw this and it sparked my curiousity. Grateful if one of the Monaro experts on here could educate me.

No doubt many on here will have seen the following car on ebay recently:
http://www.ebay.com.au/i...rksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Note in the add the following: "Above all it is a genuine Bathurst edition right down to the chain to hold the motor in place if the engine mount breaks."

I have not previously heard of this feature and, for what its worth, could not find a part in the HT Parts Catalogue that fits the description in the Ad. Nor have I ever noticed such a thing on any of the cars I have seen at Monaro Nationals and other events.

I'd be interested to know what this part is and how it is fitted. Presumably it was fitted only to Manual cars? Did it carry over to HG 350 Manuals too?

AFAIK they were a dealer fitted item. I don't know who made them but the idea came from a GM kit supplied for Chevrolets of the same era. They had a link which attached to the left-hand upper suspension, restraining the engine when (not if) the engine mount broke under acceleration.

OK thanks very much Doc. I will keep my eyes wider open at future shows to see if I can spot one in the flesh.

The reason for restraining the mount was because on 1968 chev impala,s etc, when the mount broke under acceleration, the throttle had been known to jam on flat out, causing accidents.

How true, but didn't the same thing happen with HK/T/G with Chev V8s & also Ford V8s of the same era.

GMH didnt think so, or it would have been a recall situation and/or retrofit situation, but i dont disagree it has happened many times, some types of mounts have excess movement limiting tags as you probably know and i always fitted them to cars ive had in the past
