Hi guys,
Have just found a 186 3spd base monaro. It is untouched with all books, drives but is only a daily driver. Two questions: What is it worth if I restore it as it is? Or will it be worth the same if i turn it into a made up V8 GTS? What do you guys think... I also know were i can get a 307, 4spd model but it needs a lot more body work and missing engine bits.Would this be a better buy in the long run.. Thanks

I'd go the 186 3 sp. The body is the killer in older cars, so the car with the best body is my choice.

Honestly don't know if its worth more a GTS clone or original.
I'd keep the 186&speed & diff in the shed and upgrade to a V6 or 8,
done with as little metal cutting as possible.

Base model monaro`s are rare as most were converted to GTS spec, genuine 307 4 spd cars are also rare , a mate had a restored one and sold it before the global melt down, it fetched $90k mind you he did the mechanicals and his mate had a crash shop so he made a good profit.
As stated body work and paint cost a bundle so keep that in mind on the other hand if you paint a monaro it cost about the same as painting a belmont so its swings and round a bouts.
