Hi, can anyone tell me if there are any issues running a 5ltr EFI engine with a manual gearbox using an Auto computer?
I have a nice 5ltr which I want to fit into my kingswood but it doesn't have a loom or computer. Every computer on the internet seems to be auto.
Fitting an auto gaybox is not an option :-0

It depends upon which series engine, ie VN/VG/VQ, VP, VR, VS or late VSIII. The early ones no dramas, you can just change the memcal anyway or simply use the auto memcal. When you get theem re-programmed to suit your diff and tyre size (so the speedo input is right) you can put any program into the memcal you like. The later engines with 4L60E auto boxes use a bigger ECU but they can be programmed to suit a manual. I'd just go and buy any early V6 ECU, even a Camira or Nissan Pulsar one (808) and get a manual memcal. Examples: http://www.ebay.com.au/i...ies&hash=item1c282bf25a

These are just exampless. Depending upon what engine you have you may have to modify say a VN harness to suit a VR engine, mainly at distributor plug. |

if your using a manual box you need the the computer for it some as if you are running a auto.Ebay sell second hand computer just make shore it is for the manual box

Have a talk to Castle Auto Electrics in Victoria. They just re-programed my computer to run an early T700 with a VT series 1 Holden 5.7 , they also supplied a speed sensor to provide the info that the computer needs as well as the ability to run the analog speedo. |

Just to clarify a few things here.
There are essentially 4 different types of Holden V8 ECU.
1. VN/VG/VQ/VP - With this type, auto & manual use the same ECU, it's only mem-cal programming which makes the difference & these are plug & play.
2. VR/VS (except late VS III) auto - In these models, the auto & manual use totally different ECUs. To my knowledge a mem-cal swap can't change a manual to auto or vice versa. I've asked several so-called programming gurus & they say the same, however somebody out there might know differently. The VR/VS series auto is fully ECU controlled.
3. VR/VS (except late VS III) manual - see comments in note 2.
4. VT series 1 (& late VS III) auto & manual. Even though the auto box is ECU controlled, these models use the same ECU for auto & manual with just a mem-cal swap.
