There is an ej premier on ebay that is advertised as being fitted with a 149 red motor from factory as stocks of grey motors had run out. Have heard of one other but have never seen one. Can anyone confirm if there really was factory 149 ej's ? |

Sounds unusual, however strange things happen when new models come out. |

I've no doubt that a 149 EJ exists, it's just the reason is dodgy. If it is the real deal, it was probably a test mule & not a production item. GM-H did not 'run out' of Grey motors prior to the EH release, they were still selling new long motors thru spare parts well into the late 60s.
It might seem sound like an easy conversion, but on the production line it would have been a nightmare. The many minor mechanical, electrical & body differences between a Red-motored car & a Grey-motored car would fill a small book & not be viable in production. When you consider the change in floor pan (for the gearbox crossmember), the changes in diff & gearbox bits, the different wiring harness, mounts etc. etc. Also Holden has to provide warranty, service & parts on any car they sell at retail level.
You often hear many stories like this: my mate once had a .... & my uncle's friend used to drive a ...., but most are just heresay. The best proof would be an original owners manual with the engine & chassis details or a dealer sales invoice. Even then, as I said it could be a GM-H test mule or prototype. However these would not have been sold 'new' thru normal dealer channels,

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Yes would be interesting to know the casting dates also. Its still on ebay if you want to check it out. Asked the lady owner and she can't give me any other details except to say an "expert" on ej eh's confirmed it is genuine. |
