Looking for assistance re seat belts - my car has trim code 1152-18Y - black carpets and door trims with beige/parchment seats. Currently has brown front seat belts which seem wrong to me - should they be be black and if so any ideas where they can be obtained from. Also are seat belts compulsory front and rear? This car has been completely pulled apart and put back together over 10 years or so - some parts could very well be wrong!!! Thanks

The belts should be black as would the carpet, console, dash and dashpad.
Seat belts were compulsory in the front. Rears were optional until Jan 71 when they were factory fitted in all HG's |

So black is the go - do you think I would have trouble registering it in NSW without the rear belts? Full rego with blue slip

Not if it is original. My old '57 Chev had no seatbelts at all, and used to pass rego no dramas. Once they are modified they'll make you fit seatbelts. Talk to old Holden (48/215 to EH) owners, they have to deal with this all the time. |

I do RTA inspections all the time & seatbelts are not required (front or rear) in any unmodified car built before Jan 1965. Front only are compulsory from Jan 65, but prior to Jan 71. After that, functional seatbelts are required in all seating positions.
The only people that this rule affects, is owners of cars like an HD, which never had seatbelts, but is now retrospectively illegal unless 2 front ones are fitted.
An anomaly is that if any belts have already been fitted, they must remain, they cannot be removed.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Doc does this condition apply to the HD only or to the K also? Reason I ask is I met a bloke about 18 months ago who had a K registered in NSW and he was telling me about his just that week experience with the RTA. He was forced to remove the rear seatbelts from his Monaro. In this case tho, someone had fitted lap sash in the two outer passenger positions which the Ks did not have even as an option - maybe the over-the- shoulder mounting point did not meet standards I don't know but it seemed odd that he had to remove all 3 belts including the middle lap belt ????? The other thing I would be interested to know is if, in the case of the K someone had at one time put in lap belts using the factory supplied mounting points, presumably they would not have to stay there - an inspection would not be able to determine whether any had been there at some point or not would it?
