VS statesman speedo not working help needed

Hi all.
Need help with a VS Statesman speedo not working, it started to fluctuate then dropped to zero for a few minits, then came good, for 900 odd KM, then it started to play up and stopped, i don't if the distance was still working as the car is 800 Kays away from me at the moment tomorrow i will get more info, Any one have any idea's at the moment? Thanks mackv8. |

If it's also giving you a "check engine" light, then odds on it's the speed sensor.
If the distances in the odometer & trip computer are still working correctly, then the fault is in the speedo (gauge) itself. |

Have the same problem. I just thump the dash!!! Only happens about 2x a year. But I need to pull it out to replace illumination globes so will check all joints etc.

be the drive gear on the speedo is broken it is common the gear is termed the suicide gear because it is designed to fail.
new gears are available and not that hard to fit but a bit fiddly.

Ok some more info when the speedo went out the speed warning still worked.
Tapping of the front of the dash front made no difference.
It was hot in side the car both time's it went out,parked all day in the sun.
This morning it was working ok.car only did around 20 km to day.
Will see what happens tomorrow will be doing about 850 km. |

More on speedo problem, Yesterday car in sun most day very hot in car,drove of no speed reading every thing else working ie cruse,trip meter, distance traveled working, put air con on cold after car cooled right down speed traveling came back 15 km traveled so will be getting fixed and let all know what is was. |
