My son has a VL Twin turbo charged Calais and we have just discovered a crack in the block. Therfor we are in need of a new block. I think the motor is an RB 30 not sure if it is a DE or DET. Is there a difference? If so what is the difference? and does anyone know where I can get a block from
Cheers Andy

The VL non-turbo engine was a Nissan RB30-E (RB = engine series, 30 = 3 litre & E = injected)
The VL turbo engine was an RB30-ET (T = turbo).
The D denotes a twin-cam head & TT denotes a twin-turbo set-up, the R32 Godzilla for example had an RB26-DETT (2.6 litre twin-cam injected twin-turbo). I don't believe that Nissan built an RB30-DETT, but you could make one from the necessary bits.
AFAIK, the RB30-E & the RB30-ET shared the same engine block. You could get an N/A VL engine at the wreckers & use the bits you need from that.

from memory if you get a NA block you should get a series 2, again from memory and i play with holdens let alone nissans but i think the series 2 has block drilled for the turbo oil return etc and something else done to it that makes it alot easier to use

Yes, that rings a bell. The early blocks had no provision for turbo oil.
It is easier to get a later standard block than modify an earlier one.

Can anyone tell me what mods need to be done ro an RB30 standard block to turn it onto an RB 30 turbo. I know that there is an oil return for the turbo but it cant be just that simple. A picture would help
Thanks
