Hi there, I hope someone can help me. My 72 gts is currently being repainted in original colour of glacier white. I understand that the sills between the wheel arches should be painted black, was this an option or were all gts painted black? Also, can anyone tell me if it should be gloss or satin finish? Car is almost ready for pick up so need answer tomorrow if anyone knows. Panel beater reckons it should be satin same as toranas, etc. thanks, Phil |

As far as I know it is low gloss black, 578-4149. This is what was used on HQ Sandman for the blackouts. As far as I am aware it was also the black used on LH-LX Torana blackouts I don't have the same paint sheets for GTS though. |

Ok thanks, low gloss finish sounds same as satin so panel beater is correct. I thought maybe warrigal black in gloss. Regards, Phil |

Depends on the time your car was made. Early 1972 cars had Warrigal blackouts and the sill paintout was a standard feature on the GTS and not an option of any sort. The paint was a lower gloss than the rest but not by much. It certainly wasn't satin finish. Late in 1972 the black paint changed to the one HK1837 mentions that then continues on to the end of HQ.

Thanks, it's now been painted satin, looks good but not quite right so I'll have to respray in low gloss at some stage. Thanks for the feedback. |

On the HQ SS I restored recently, I used black tinter with 30% matt additive. It made a low gloss black, but shinier than satin. |
