Hi all, Does anyone know where the original "Muncie Hump" was forged from ? |

They weren't forged as you put it. There are many forgeries around these days though. The floor pan in the cars had a hole cut in it and a sheetmetal patch was welded in place over the cutout. The alteration was for the shifter assembly and not the gearbox as you suggest. The Muncie fits in the car with no need to alter the floor. Different story when you fit up the shifter mechanism.

It definitely looks like a pressing that would need specific tooling and with only a limited number of 350 manuals not that many would have been produced. It's about 200mm (8") by 180mm (7") and 150mm (6") high in dimensions and fits the contour of the trans tunnel. A friend of mine from our club has the 81837 coupe without the "Hump" and needs a copy. It will be very hard to copy so I thought I'd give this forum a try.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. |
