Hi all,

I have a '74 HQ Statesman with factory air con. It hasn't been hooked up since I've had the car, and isn't needed (I live in Tassie). I currently have the motor (308) out for a freshen up, and am tidying up the engine bay. My question is: is it possible to swap out the huge, ugly (and cracked) firewall mounted air con unit for the non air con one, as long as I change over the heater core as well?

Thanks in advance

Thanks: 1 times
Sure is, I think you will also need the airbox that goes inside the firewall and the controls for the non aircon version

Hi "nickt2001"

Is it a "Frigidaire" type compressor?
Motor on now and reject ovals.

you will also need the freshair vent cables and foot vent flaps etc. these are all blocked off in a/c cars , find a wreck and grab all the fresh air vent stuff and anything that looks related.

Nick where are you located in Tas? I just bought a 74 HQ Statesman.
I'm a girl and I love cars. Big cars. Old cars. Loud cars.

you will need to remove the internal airbox, remember there are 2 bolts which have to be removed from inside the footwell as well as the ones accessible from the engine bay. also get the relays and so on, will make it easier to sell. as mentioned the cables are different and there should be a blanking plate on the right side air vent you have to remove this and put the correct vent in any model will do or you won't get proper ventilation for those frosty days.
