Hi all My HQ coupe gets a lot of diff bounce when i spin the wheels. I've replaced the shocks and made no difference. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Don't spin the wheels :)
Worn bushes, Loose bolts, Tyre pressure will all have an effect.

My first thought was shocks, but you've covered that. Bushes would be my next thought. Easy enough to check or even remove the arms to check 'em. Do you have any other rear suspension issues? Rattles, thumps, etc?
Pinion angle- is the car lowered? Perhaps an dodgey engine mount altering the pinion angle?
And sounds crazy, but have you tried swapping the tyres left to right or front to back? I've seen some weird stuff fixed by tyre swaps.
This is unlikely- do you have directional tyres- and are they "pointing" the right way?

Cheers guys Yes it does have a few clunks and bumps and yes it is lowered. Looks like the upper trailing as have a bit of movement in them so looks like the diff will be coming out for some new bushes. Does anyone know a way to set the diff angle as I have adjustable top trailing arms.

Try this link. The Chevelles used a similar rear suspension to the HQs. So similar that the bushes interchange. ( love that GM interchangability!) http://www.chevelles.com.../showthread.php?t=127664 |

Hi "Sharpy" Since you have had the occasional wheel spin, I was wondering if you've had a look behind your back seat where the seat belts mount to and if there are cracks ranging out from the bolt those holes? Cheers Tad |

What type of shocks. Get quality. Monro GT Gas are just rubbish. One should be able to enjoy a car and not just put up with it. I found the HQ to WB ute p van 1 tonne were the best rear end it never gave any tramp at all. I have found tramp in some cars, not doing burnouts but just putting the boot into it even at 60km/h it drives ya up the wall as ya have to back off. it makes for a rubbish car i can't stand.

You need to get all the bushes checked, any sloppyness will cause axle tramp. Have you excessfully lowered the rear and are the springs flapping around in the breeze, you need the springs to stay in place with no load on the rear. Limit the suspension drop so the springs retain some tension when umloaded.

Thanks everyone for all your ideas. After having a closer look I think the bushes need replacing. When I put the adjustable trailing arms in they came with new bushes for where they connect to the body but the ones on the diff look original. I've found if I put a spanner on them I can get a fair bit of movement in those bushes. The lower ones all look the same so I'm thinking the diff will have to come out and get someone to put new ones in all. This diff angle still confuses the s*** out of me too. I might just have to take it to a specialist and pay to get it right. I've been to Steve Hillman is the man to see he is down here south of Adelaide. Ill keep you up to date with my progress.
