Self tapping screws in the mudflap area.

Yes, in the wheel wells there are screws attaching the rear bar to the 1/4 panels. They may be hiding behind mud flaps. When you undo them, pull the lower corner of the bar out to make sure it's free (the top corner will still be engaged on a slide-on mount, so don't pull it out).

In the spare wheel well, there's a couple of 13mm nuts, pointing back to the bar. You'll need a ratchet & extension to reach them.

I can't remember if the wagon also has some screws under the back (near the fuel tank) like the sedan, which secure the lower section back to the body - just check (they'll be obvious).

Once you have those wheel well screws, and the 13mm nuts undone, it should slide back off the car (you may need a helper to swing the wheel end pieces out from the body a little to clear the brackets.
Cheers,

Mick

If the towbar hangs lower, or has a removable tongue, you shouldn't need to remove it.
Cheers,

Mick
