I have just come into possession a 186k engine out of a HR and would like to know what the differences between the 186a and the 186k (internal)and what models it was optioned in?

a 186K with the original 2bbl is 145bhp the 186A is 126bhp, It was optional with special ,premier , perhaps others ,a guy in our club ordered a red special with white roof and a 186S with opel 4 spd from new.

In the later HR engines the 186K engine continued with forged crank. It also had revised camshaft, heavier exhaust valves, stronger valve springs, improved main bearings, 2BBL carb and manifold to suit, auto choke, and twin exhaust manifolds (info courtesy of "The Monaro Story"). |
