VS8VK80 = Holden VS ute
725 pack = LB9 (5.0 V8), M78/M34 (5-sp man) & PA3 (7 x 15 Alloys)
7BB = S pack with Air Cond

It'll probably be one of those awful Getrag boxes. I had one in a V6 VSIII and it wasn't a great box.

Yeah, in 1999 Series 3, the 5-sp manual gearbox was an M34 Getrag, even on the V8.

An S in a VS ute is nothing special, it was really the 'normal' trim level. It doesn't equate to the S sedan.

Apart from the A9K 'poverty pack' (base model) there is no model lower than the S in the ute range. The SS was a limited production model in VS, so I guess most VS utes you see would be S models.

It was actually the only way to get a V8 in a ute until the 2 x series of SS in VSIII. VG-VS V8 utes were the first and only S V8's until the SV8 sedan was released in whenever it was, VY I think.
Terry there were HEAPS of Holden utes made, probably similar order of magnitude to S utes. There were still lots of autos left in December 2000 when I bought my V6 manual VSIII S.

Yes, but my point was that a S level VS ute was not really on par with an S sedan which was a 'sporty' version of an Executive. The S ute really was an Executive trim level.

Back in 1995-2000 the number of A9Ks vs S utes I guess was about the same. But given that most A9Ks were true commercials & driven into the ground early in life, there would be proportionally more S utes today that when new. Look how few early Holden utes & vans have survived vs their sedan/wagon counterparts.

Got you. Misunderstood what you wrote! I actually tried to buy a VSIII Holden ute in 12/2000 in a manual but all were gone, hundreds of autos to choose from in T-bar or column shift. There were also heaps of S utes in auto as well, but only 2 x S manuals left: a black and a white and they gave me a great deal on one of those (the white one). The black one was in WA. Purchase price on the road ex GST (don't finance GST on a lease) was $24533.64 inc cargo liner, 1600kg tow pack, mudflaps and cruise control (only std on autos). I traded it 2.5 years later on a new VY SS for just under $20k with about 70,000kM on it.

I think I got a good price on this one.

241klm, country car, tub liner, lockable hardtop, 17inch real VT SS Alloys, tinted windows, Hayman Reece Tow bar and trans cooler, 2.5 inch exhaust, overall rust free body but paint has gone off, needed a couple of the tiniest things for roadworthy ($300 all up)
Paid $1000 unreg

Drives really well and I know the history of it for the past three owners all want to buy it back off me LOL

That is good buying. If it was an auto i'd have grabbed it for the engine and box conversion for a HQ.

LOL my thoughts exactly! I will probably drive it for a while and then drop all the running gear into an Ek Ute shell I have here!
