If the cooling sensor is faulty or needs to be replaced would it make the temperature gauge in the car hit boiling point even though the overflow for the radiator is full?

The emissions / check engine light keeps coming on too

Confused...

This depends on what model car we are talking about. On some models the ECU coolant sensor does the job of the temp gauge sensor, via the ECU.

Also, ignore the overflow bottle, that's all it is, an overflow. It is possible for your radiator to be empty & your overflow bottle to be full. Always check the radiator level & only when cold.

OK, with TS Astras, the temp gauge works off the ECU, so get somebody to do a scan on the ECU to find out what fault codes are present, maybe even what put the light on.

Also on TS Astras, that bottle is not an overflow bottle it is the actually the pressurised header tank, so what you see in that tank is the 'real' level of the cooling system. My guess is that you don't have an overheating issue & that your fault is computer related. Phone me on (02) 9644-2888 & I will explain more fully.

We have a 2001 TS and 12months ago the temp gauge was showing close to boil. After a lot of testing it was found the thermostat was faulty. We changed the thermostat, which also included the thermo housing, and since then all is good. It may help to have this checked out first??. AL.

Thanks Guys, I'm not really wanting to spend too much money on the car as I am in the process of purchasing a new one...

Thank you for your assistance.
