I bought this aircleaner assembly thinking it was for a HJ and that it might suit my late 74 HQ. Its got that extra host barb under there for the choke air feed, that was a HQ HJ thing I think . . . wasnt it? Anyway it all looks correct except the breather outlet is aiming at the passenger side rocker cover, not the driver side. What car had its breather on the passenger side?

It has to be off a car with the choke heat source in the driver's side exhaust manifold and with the air heat stove on the passenger's side exhaust (so an ADR27 car). Which means Later HQ (like 1974), HJ, LH or early LX. But afaik these have the PCV breather at the driver's side front or the passenger's side rear, with the PCV valve in the opposite corner.
Lid is HJ or LH or early LX.
I just looked up in the parts catalogues, and LH and early LX (ADR27 engines) have a different air cleaner listed for cars with factory air. When you look at the size of the factory A/C box on one of these you can see it'd interfere with the fitting at the rear of the passenger's side rocker cover, so they probably swap them over - just looked at LH parts catalogue and rocker covers are different for factory A/C cars.
So I'm almost certain that is a factory air LH-early LX aircleaner Stick it on Ebay, someone who is doing an original resto on an SLR5000 with factory air will want that aircleaner. |

Thanks for that info, I cant believe how many different air cleaners there were over that 4 year period. Late 74 HQ to early HJ is what I'm looking for, I might just patch up this hole and make the breather come out inline with the driver side front rocker cover. Very difficult to find the exact one that I need. Thanks again.

I wouldn't do that, i'd sell it to a Torana owner. You'll get good $ for it. |

Thanks to Pete (74HJLS) for the aircleaner assembly. For 308's late HQ and early HJ and SLR with aircond on the left and non-aircond on the right of the photo. Edited by user Friday, 12 April 2013 10:23:04 PM(UTC)

The LH one is LH and LX pre 6/76 with aircon only. All 308 HQ-HJ for the same period use the RH one regardless of A/C or not. |

Also note that the aircleaner lid differs in shape from HJ to later ones ,I found out when restoring one for my HJ stato , your original pic is the correct lid, the later ones do not rise as high in the centre area.
