Having owned & driven many HK/T/Gs over the years I can never understand the 'yearning' for the 16.7 steering ratio, unless it's on a power steered car.

With most of these cars now fitted with radial ply tyres (not standard in 1968-71) & many with wider than standard wheel rims, the steering effort is often too heavy, especially at parking speeds.

For a good comfortable manual steering car, the 20:1 ratio is much more user friendly.

What I've done for many of my customers (moreso these days with good 16.7 bits getting hard to find) is to fit 20:1 guts into 16.7:1 cases for the purpose of originality in the case of GTS models. The best of both worlds - a genuine looking 16.7 stamped case to impress the onlookers & yet a car that can be driven by mere mortals without huge biceps.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Thanks Warren, what a fluke, my Hg's was built April 71. Terry, I agree, but it is for a power steer car.
