Gday all. I am having trouble with a trimatic that is coupled to a 202. The setup is on a frame not in a car, use to drive a big wood lathe. The shift lever is stuck in 1st, lever all the way towards the motor. There are no linkages or cables to get caught just straight onto the selector on the transmission. I cant move the lever engine running or not. Any ideas how to fix this problem or what could be going on?

firstly is it the original lever? second if the lever is all the way towards the motor then that is in park so the gearbox won't be driving the lathe. you need to move it back 3 notches to get drive (P/R/N/D/ ETC) if you want 1st you need to go all the way back from the motor. the driveshaft might be still rotating a bit now but that simply gearbox inertia it is not actually drive. to move the lever there is a catch underneath the T piece handle, you have to squeeze it as you grip the handle (assuming it is not a column shift) to move the lever this is a safety lock.

Thanks for the help. There is no shifter john, just talkimg about the lever mounted on the transmission itself. So I tink the gears positions work in reverse to normal as there is no linkages.

For future references. Problem was a broken lock for the park hub, the broken piece was restricting the park linkage from going into the locator in the snub of the transmission.
