Hi Guys need some advice here whats involved here i no i need to find a 307 engine but what else do i need to make it running what do i need to convert it to a running 307 V8 atm its a genuine 186s , 2 speed glide or am i just plan mad advice would be great and a rough ball park in dollars am i looking at to do this cheers fellas if you can help me out.

It is not hard to convert these early Holdens, specially with the optional engines. You ned the following: driveline: Engine, trans and rear axle Exhaust Accellerator linkage Engine wiring harness Switch taco from 6 to 8 Front springs Forgot you will also need: Crossmember step down Speedo cable Mount adaptors Radiator Warren Edited by user Monday, 4 November 2013 10:51:46 PM(UTC)

Basically as Warren says if you are going 186S 'glide to 307 'glide. Same body standard except for extra speedo cable hole. You can use the rear axle but will need a V8 centre and the appropriate tailshaft. A bog standard 307 auto GTS had a 3.08:1 banjo and 5" rims, but many were also made with 3.36 Sals and rally rims.
307 blocks are still around, let me know your car's details and I can estimate what you are lookong for engine wise. 307 rebuild kits are available from the US, just use better heads and they go well. A TH350 will fit where the 'glide fits too, just needs the kickdown sorted. Your shifter will operate either, there is a guy on Ebay that sells the piece to convert the powerglide t-bar to a 3spd one. |

With the different speedo cable hole would you get away with using the original one for the 6 cylinder? Also with my HT I thought there were various gearbox crossmembers and I am unsure if I have the correct one. Does anyone know what letter was stamped on a crossmember for 307/powerglide combo? Thanks. |

Cable gets bent more than factory design. I once put a 6cyl Powerglide extension housing on a 308 V8 powerglide box so it would mount in a HK using the 6cyl crossmember, but the speedo never worked. Not sure if you also need the 6cyl gear on the V8 output shaft for this to work? If it does you could do it that way and avoid drilling a hole in the firewall. |

I have routed the V8 speedo cable through the 6 cylinder hole in the past and it worked.

I've seen it done too, had TH400's done this way too and it works. But speedo needle goes erratic after a while. GMH wouldn't have drilled the extra hole for LH side speedo if it wasn't necessary. |

When I did it, I had a speedo cable made up that was a lot longer than standard. That way I could run it through the 6 cyl holes and not have it kink. Worked a treat.

Maybe keep an eye out for a HK 307 Prem and buy the whole car and then swap everything over,thats what i did anyway.

What length should the cable be (when using the 6 cylinder hole)? I tried to ring Andrew a few times but no answer. Cheers. |
