Can someone tell me if the battery isolation switch when used resets the engine ECU and cause temporary running problems when re-connected? Car is VZ with gen1 or 3 with standard engine loom. The isolation switch is in the negative battery side. Thanks for the help.

It depends on what brand & type of ECU you have & if it has memory for idle speed control etc. etc.

Thanks Dr Terry. The ECU he uses is the standard supplied with the VZ sv8 I believe. Should I still get to it and copy down its details? This late model stuff is well out of my comfort zone.

No that's fine, you just had me confused with the mention of the"RACE CAR ENGINE MANAGEMENT COMPUTER". I thought you had a Motec or Haltech or similar.

The factory Delphi ECU is very powerful & intelligent & has memories at several levels, so while you can disconnect the 12 volt supply at any time, it's not a good idea to do it regularly if you want good drivability & economy.
