prototype and pilot chassis numbers??

i'm led to believe that Holden prototypes and pilots never receive any formal chassis number...at least one that makes sense...
...the body assemblies may have received a number, as they were "sold" inhouse from the body manufacturing plants to the vehicle assembly plants, thereby necessitating a degree of warranty on these items.....at least this is what occurred way back in the days of Woodville (Adelaide)and Pagewood (Sydney)
...would anyone have any clues to this grey area in research??

During HQ-HZ the first 20 chassis numbers were kept for internal cars from Dandenong.
Pilot HQ-HZ had chassis numbers i've recorded a few. |

thanks HK1837 .. would the internal cars be first production builds? or pilots...
...also do the pilot numbers you've recorded have similar numbers, (or manufacturing plant clues) to the earliest productions?....

The documentation says: "first 20 numbers are reserved for pre-test vehicles", with regards to Dandenong chassis numbers which GMH call the "Vehicle Serial Number". It says they all start at 00001 except Dandenong which starts at 00021.
We can tell when these early cars were completed by their VIN number, the PSN withing the VIN places it amongst vehicles in the prior series, so for example the early HZ's sit back in July 1977 production amongst HX's.

...thanks again HK1837 .. it makes you wonder if those 20 Dandenong chassis numbers were ever actually struck.... ...the earliest pilot Holdens (48-215) never had a chassis tag nor the engine number struck....although these first 10 "production" cars were noted at registration as simply having chassis number 1001 with engine number 1001 ...up to engine/chassis 1010... ...the first real for sale (to dealers only or possibly GMAC) was ch/no 1011 with an appropriate engine number struck....but not the next consecutive engine number... ...when these pilots were onsold to selected GMH staff around 1951, they had to have a Victoria Police (VP) engine number struck... and as there was no chassis tag to identify what year these ones were, these earliest vehicles eventually went to their graves without anyone having a clue to their real identity and significance... ...has anyone ever had a chance to check any other pilots or prototypes for any form of numbering? I have AHX00001, 00002 and 00003M recorded. Plus AHZ00017M and there are 7 x PSN's from Dandenong HZ lower that that car. |

thanks HK .. i went to one of the "all Holden" days at Flemington (Melb) around the time of the V2 release...or just a little while later....
...there was a silver prototype coupe (or pilot) due to be crushed in an exercise for the benefit of the "jaws of life" or a similar CFA exercise....
...there was also a placard saying how these experimental jiggers were to be shipped to New Zealand for other similar exercises
