Hi
Does my 1969 Melb built HT GTS Monaro require rear seatbelts to be fitted when it finally hits the road? In what year did rear belts become mandatory? Or do all passenger vehicles require rear belts now regardless of whether or not they came out with them?
Thanks Nev.

Greetings, First Holden to get rear belts standard was HG in 1971. Not long after this, you HAD to wear them in Victoria or cop a fine. You don't need rear belts in a Holden if they never had them from new as far as I understand. I have two cars without them and no dramas.
look out, the guru is coming through...

Rear seat belts are covered by ADR 4. This was introduced on 1/1/1971.
Cars built prior to this do not have to have rear seat belts fitted.
If belts are fitted, then they must be worn, but they do not have to be fitted by law.
Cheers,

Mick
