It's been a long time sincere I've been on this forum, so let me start by saying... Hi everyone : )

I moved to the city about 3 years ago and thus have been away from my car and have made no progress on it. I'm just now getting to the point where I want to get moving on the project again and I've decided I'd like to learn how to weld.

I don't have the car with me so my idea is to get a fairly portable welder (from what I can tell most are) and learn here where I live, once I get a bit of practice to try my hand at some rust repairs on parts of the car that won't be seen. And either work my way up to the visible repairs or leave that to a professional.

I figure I can start with some simple projects just getting welds to work and the like and then try my hand at making some useful frames for something like a workbench or some shelving.

What I'd like to know is the opinions of you guys on here as to what brand/model of welder would be good for a beginner like me and suitable to do light rust repair work on my HQ. I'm leaning toward a gasless MIG and thought the Cigwelds looked pretty decent.

i have a boc 130amp it works ok with more practice i reckon i could do decent job with it. but i would get a bit larger one as it won't do aluminium. also i have only used it gasless it may improve if i go gas.
apart from that the boc ones i think are pretty reliable. but if you are going to be using it inside don't run gasless the fumes are cumulative in the body and very bad for you (although a lot of welding fumes are a bit dodgy)
