i have a 3 on the tree manual column in my ute wanting to convert to floor shift TH350. is there a difference between HG and HK auto columns or is there an easy way to convert using the current column?

Yes HK-HG auto columns are different, but they will physically interchange (ie bolt in). HK auto columns are all powerglide too, and HG are trimatic.
But that is irrelevant to you anyway as you are converting to floor shift. So any floor shift or console shift column will suit you (4spd floor, 4spd console or T-bar).
I've never done it but you should be able to remove the column shift equipment from your column and putthe plastics back on to suit off another column.
