I have a 327 which I was told was from a 1965 impala SS and it has a cartridge oil filter. This engine is replacing a 307 which has a spin on filter. I want to change the 327 to a spin on filter if possible and am wondering if I can use the spin on adapter which was on the 307. Also, what else would I need to do to complete this conversion?

Yes, the adapter in the 307 will fit your 327.

Pre-68's used the canister type, but the filter adapters are the same as 68 onward small block and big block Chev V8's all use the same oil filter.

Thanks Rusty. The adapter in the '65 block has smaller bolts (but they appear to be spaced at the same distance as the 307) and it is much larger and doesn't want to come away from the block very easily. Any suggestions as to how to remove it?
