Gday,
From the research i have done on this site & others it appears that HK GTS Monaros & Broughams were premium products of GMH back in the day & had there engine bays painted in Warragul Black satin finish, Other models (Base Monaros, Kingswoods & Belmonts) used flat chassis black or a mixture of any left over body paints etc....
It did also vary from factorys but mine is a November 1968 Sydney built unit & they used Warragul Black in Monaros/Brougham engine bays, Not sure about Melbourne built HK GTS's but your on the rite site for info etc....
Goodluck.....

Good to see it went to a good home Wayne, if that's the HK I think it is. Should be suitable for driving to Bunnings, anyway.

Yeah thats the car and Im very happy with it. Its a long way off being roadworthy though, the Bunnings trip will have to wait.

GTS and Brougham are gloss Warrigal engine bay. It just isn't cut/buffed like the same spec paint on the body. Probably air dry acrylic. |

I have gone through the same process as you and asked the same question On this forum I done a bare metal job on the engine bay Dandenong built HK GTS Series 1 early build What i ended up using was a 2 pack very tough Valspar product At the paint shop we discussed gloss characteristics And the blokes came up with a mix that worked well Below # are off the paint tin so might mean something At your supplier I applied it a bit dry to avoid a real glossy shiny engine bay And it came up a treat and the paint is tuff as no worries Of chipping etc Worked well for me Hope this helps / let me know if you want more paint details I will see if I can get them Valspar TB540 TB543-787 CT112-862
