Hello all

I've lost the boot key to my HJ Statseman Caprice. It has gas fitted, so I can't go in through the back seat. I am told the key is the same as the glovebox, and to take the glovebox barrel to a locksmith to get a key made up.

The glovebox is unlocked. However, I cannot work out how to remove the barrel. I have a generic Gregories manual - it explains how to remove every lock in the car EXCEPT the glovebox barrel.

Assistance appreciated.

Matt

Simple, but a damn fine idea.

(Going away now embarrassed that I didn't think of that).

I have had this issue as well, the glove box lock can only be removed if you had the key . If getting a key cut does not work , i drilled out the boot lock barrel . i have used a slide hammer , but it just wrecks the boot lid . hope this helps Mark.

Thanks guys. Yes, I know you can on some cars get to the two philips head screws that hold the boot lock slide in, but I seem to recall you can only do this if you bend the boot lid. I'll see how the locksmith goes with the glovebox lid.

Thanks again.

If you have the original VID certificate it will show the key numbers. Should be able to get a key from that. Also try a number of Holden keys, ofyen you'll get one to open it.

doesn't the ignition key work?
from memory, the main key worked all locks, there was a subsidiary key which only worked the ignition but would not fit the boot and glove box so you could secure them when the vehicle was in for service.
the door locks usually have the original number stamped on the U shaped operating lever inside the door, on the flat bit of the lock itself, but you have to take the lock out to see it, and on some cars only the drivers door lock was stamped. sometimes its a bit dirty so you have to clean it to see it.
also he wants to lock the glove box so why wreck the boot?

The ignition key fits the door lock & starts the car, able to be given to parking boys , the oval headed key was not given out , as it unlocked the glovebox & boot. mark.
