Hi all,
Would someone be able to decode these numbers, particularly interested in the paint codes?
BIG TAG
Body - HK369M17708B
Trim - 1271 - 18F
Paint - 568 9713
Top - 568 10845
SMALL TAG - 80369KH120844 - I think this is Kingswood sedan HK built in Brisbane 20844th built?
Firewall stamp - HK19058B

Thanks
Rob

1271 is Ermine White roof over Marlin Turquoise body.

The car is a manual HK Kingswood sedan, the 17708th HK body out of the Acacia Ridge body plant.

The chassis number HK19058BB (there will be a second B under or after the first) is the 19058th HK chassis number stamped at the Acacia Ridge body plant.

120844 is the plant sequence number for cars assembled at the Acacia Ridge assembly plant. The number for this location started at 100000 from memory at 1/9/67, and includes all GMH assembled vehicles from that location. So will have whatever was assembled there in the total from that date.

How did the difference come between the tag body number and the firewall number again?
e.g the 17708th hk body from the ridge and the 19058th hk chassis number stamped there.

Not sure exactly how they get out of whack so much. I don't see too many Acacia Ridge HK's but they never align, although I must admit these are further apart than I expected. It all comes down to a combination of when the body number is assigned, when the body tag goes on and when the chassis number is stamped. Plus Acaia Ridge did export HK bodies at some stage for assembly at other plants which further adds to the confusion.

HK1837, appreciate your assistance.
Is it possible to determine the year built - 68 or 69 from those codes?

Thanks again,
Rob

Rob you can but I don't have any info with me. Will look later if I remember.

Pete:

Yes. I don't think any HK CKD kits came from Acacia Ridge though and if they did they wouldn't have a chassis number or tags from Acacia Ridge. Ex body plant HK shells (painted and hard trimmed so firewall back but no interior except headlining) were sent interstate. The normal practice for this process for HK-HG was these got a chassis number eg HK12709B, a body plate and from 1/70 an ADR plate from the location of the body plant. Then it was assembled elsewhere eg Dandenong where it got a Dandenong VIN plate and an M stamped after or under the B on the chassis number. BUT some HK's were done this way with Acacia Ridge body and Pagewood assembly where it is all cocked up, it appears that Acacia Ridge stamped a Pagewood chassis number and used Acacia Ridge style body plate but with an S rather than a B or H5. Warren has an example of one of these in his black book, and my mate has a HK ute from the same period. I think the reason for the Pagewood firewall number might be because this was how Pagewood tracked the cars. All we can fathom is something must have failed at Pagewood which shut down the body plant for a short period but still had the assembly plant working eg a compressor or maybe limited power. Must have thrown a spanner in the works as normally Pagewood painted the front panels in the body plant, but for these they'd have to have painted them elsewhere like the vans they assembled..
For HK as far as i'm aware the only body plants to make all HK body styles were Elizabeth and Acacia Ridge, and those locations aldo assembled all body styles. Pagewood and Dandenong body plants did all bodies other than vans and those location's assembly plants assembled all bodies with painted and hard trimmed van shells coming from Elizabeth. Mosman Park assembled from memory all body styles except Brougham, and the bodies came from Elizabeth. Not sure what Trentham in NZ built and assembled, probably just volume stuff with the low volume stuff being imported. CKD packs to Malaysia, South Africa etc I think were ex Elizabeth. Exports to the West Indies, Hawaii, Fiji and other such places not sure which assembly plants did what.
