Hi I bought a VT Commodore a while back and am a bit confused as to where the level of coolant should be (measured by the yellow coolant dipstick) when the engine is cold (before starting). I asked a couple of mechanics and one said the level of coolant should be near the bottom and one said 2/3 full. There is coolant in the radiator (I checked under the radiator cap) but the level in the coolant tank is near the bottom. The coolant dipstick has some little holes in it going up the plastic stick then above those it has numbers going up the stick. Any help on where the coolant level should be on the stick in a cold motor much appreciated. Cheers, Macca

hi macca, having a look in my owners manual it states ,there are 2 triangles on the dipstick representing max and min fluid levels.when cold the level should be at or above the min triangle mark on the dipstick.at normal operating temp it should read somewhere between half full and the max triangle mark.hope this helps

normally they are all empty, as stones from the wheel well crack them. hence why so many VT's have blown head gaskets, the radiator never recovers and over time emptys the radiator |
Old holdens brought on the spot, quick decision, cash paid. |
