I have a 307 hk chev engine im using in my hk. Its already 30 over and I have just had it sonic tested and crack tested and all good. I can go another 100 thou on that with sufficient bore thickness so the report says. I was just wondering if anyone has a recipe for a good 307 bottom end. Ive been told bore to 4 inch 307 crank,rods and standard 327 pistons. Not sure how deck height will work out. Will this work or is there a better way, just looking for ideas is all, and i do want to use the hk dandenong engine.

327 and 307 are the samecrank and rods so boring to +0.125" will give you a 327.
I've seen plenty of these over the years also turned into 350 (using 350 crank). My mate had one running for 10+ years in a HK at +0.155" doing sub 13s quarters as a manual until it dropped a rod. I had one at 4" bore in a SWB 'cruiser thar used to lift its front tyres on tar at full throttle launch.

Warning though, with old iron heads they get hot, so you need a really good radiator, decent fan shroud and viscous clutch fan.

So this combination will work by the sound of it, just wasnt sure about piston pin height and deck height, so can i use a 350 crank as well with 307 rods and 327 pistons without mods or does the 350 crank need to be ground to a smaller journal size. Is there any where on line i can read about this exact combo?

No, you use the 327 pistons with the 307 crank and rods. Use 350 pistons with a 350 crank.

307 are large jounal, same as 1968 onwards 327 and 350 so cranks will fit. Just avoid 1967 and earlier 327 and 1967 350 small journal cranks.

You can also build 377 if you want buy buying a new 3.75" stroke crank and pistons to suit. You'll see it all advertised as 383 but it will be a 377. Bottom of bores will need notching though unless you use 400 rods with different pistons.

I think i got it so i can use a 327 piston with 307 crank and rods or i can use a 350 piston and crank but what rods do i use? Also if i go the stroker 3.75 crank i use the chev pistons but what rods?

Same 5.7" rods 307-327LJ-350.

For the 3.75" stroke engine you can also use the same 5.7" rods or 400 rods, just buy the pistons to suit. The 5.7" rods will need clearancing in the block, 400 rods don't.

I'd just stick with the 307 crank and 327 pistons, cheapest in case it all fails with the big bore.

Awesome, Thanks heaps it gives me some options now. The only reason i was thinking stroker was cause a grind is almost the same cost as a new crank outa the box etc

Yes it is close in price so might be worth doing at 350ci. I worry about the stressrs on the poor 307 block though, and it will get hot unless you use alloy heads.
