Guys im installing av6 into my eh and i plan to use the complete commordorewiring loom, i will not require the abs or the srs functionality, is it possible to operate the remaining systems with the abs plud and srs plug disconbected from respective modules, i will be using the commodore dash, air. Cond fuel pump etc.
Has anyone disconnected these units in a commodore and what is the results.?

If you're talking VR/VS era harness, then yes, you can leave the ABS leads unplugged - base models with the 2nd level wiring harness (for factory cruise etc - as used on the S models) that never had it fitted simply had the ABS plugs hanging loose.

The SRS airbag loom eminates from a yellow plug in the harness near the underdash fuse box. It's easy to spot, as all the yellow wiring runs airbag stuff. Simply unplug it from there, and it's gone. Again, VR/VS without SRS airbag simply had nothing plugged into this plug.

You can't do it as easily with VT onwards, as they run a CAN-bus system, where the modules all communicate, but VR/VS are still a simple system.

The only headache you'll have is the security signal from the BCM to the PCM. Known as VATS. It won't let the car start unless it detects the right signal from the key head. You can get VATS removed from your PCM quite easily by any of the competent "tuner" guys who can offer a replacement exchange memcal.
Cheers,

Mick

Thanks mick, the doner loom is a VU MODEL probably should have mentioned this firstly, i want to maintain cruise control function, bcm will be used with orginal commodore key ignition lock, steering column etc. does the srs control cross talk with other systems other than the dash warnings? I assume the bcm must get inputs.
I can fit everything including srs control unit , with seat plugs disconnected, can the seat plugs be shorted to simulate connection to the sensors in the seat? this wayi could have the control unit reset to remove the dash warning and still maintain other systems.
The VU I am using is a base model, it has crz, srs as mentioned, and abs, aircond v6 supercharged and 4 speed auto.
Ideally i would like to remove all the wiring from the loom im not using.
Further comment appreciated .

How did a blown V6 end up in a VU? Is it an aftermarket fitment? I didn't know you could option the blown V6 in a VU, never seen one!

Hmmm, who knows what was done to "convert" the VU to a supercharged 6? Did they simply do an engine top end swap, engine loom swap, and PCM change, or did they do the whole job properly - fuel pump controller, torque convertor clutch removal etc etc?? It may already have VATS disabled, as from VT onwards the PCM & BCM need to be paired for VATS to work properly.

As far as the stuff all interacting - the VT-VU-VX era V6 uses the PCM for a lot more functions, and the dash cluster is also driven off the PCM too.

Cruise on one of these is easily added if you follow the VR/VS cruise wiring.

Me personally, I'd avoid all the hassles you're setting yourself up for, and find a cheap wrecker VS statesman that was a factory supercharged 6, and get all the bits from it (loom, fuel pump controller, PCM, BCM, cruise etc).

Otherwise you're in a world of pain with the VU stuff and the CAN-BUS communications that interlink each other.
Cheers,

Mick

Well stripped out all the stuff today and looked at the id lates which say the car is a vx have also been told by a gm mechanic should be ok, may be an issue with the crz control, but fairly certain this can also be programmec out with the tech 2 tool.

That makes a lot more sense (the VU was the ute equivalent to the VX).

Cruise is the easy part - it only references a speed signal from the PCM, and the rest is all done in the module (and with the switches). The BCM controls the on/off latching from the momentary switch on the wand, but if you're not keeping the wand, you can fit a latching on/off switch, and a pair of momentary switches for accel/decel.

I don't think he truly understands the CAN-BUS implications.
Cheers,

Mick

This is the statement that caused the confusion. The supercharged V6 was not available in the VU series, or any other series in the "base model" to my knowledge.

Probably a VX S-pack, which would have had standard cruise, and could be optioned with the Supercharged 6.
Cheers,

Mick
