Hi All,
Is there any internal differences, engine wise, between the standard 186 and the 186S engines? I'm aware of the external differences - carby, air cleaner, headers etc, but am not aware of any internal differences.

The main differences are the use of a forged crankshaft, more durable main & conrod bearing material & a different camshaft with more valve timing overlap.
The valves are the same size, however the exhaust valves were upgraded to withstand higher temperatures.

The 186S also has higher rate valve springs.

Depends upon which series you are referring to, example HT 186 used the 186S camshaft and exhaust valves. Trimatic fitted 186 and 186S engines used the HK 186 camshaft. |
